Revisiting my old nemesis

I've laid off of him for a while since he had seemingly turned his season around back in July but my old friend Yuni B has reverted back to the May version of Yuni B.

Ok I've come to accept the fact that the Brewers are going to finish the season and go into the playoffs with Betancourt as their shortstop.  Yuni has to be the most nerve wracking thing about this team since Kameron Loe was relieved of his 8th inning duties.  We know his defense is going to be consistently bad but his hitting is incredibly inconsistent.  May Yuni went a putrid .178/.200/.289.  July Yuni had a respectable .299/.315/.437 (let's face it he isn't ever going to have a high OBP).  August Yuni, while the team has soared, is back into a valley.  Since 8/15 he is 6 out of 59 with .102/.117/.169 line.

Oh boy.

At this point we really can't do much about Yuni going into September but can we just give him a bit of advice??

Swing early, swing often.

This goes against everything I want to see in a batter.  You know: be patient, wait for your pitch.  That appears to be the opposite case for Yuni. As long as he doesn't miss the first pitch. He has hit 8 of his 10 HR's on the first pitch or with a 1-0 count. His line in those counts is .374/.360/.664 (yes I know you can't get a 2 pitch walk, just ignore the middle number). His line after the count hits 0-1 is .211/.226/.278. Doesn't get much better after that. When he gets to a 2-0 count he hits ..256/.383/.333. After 1-1 it's .213/.270/.501. After 0-2 it's .183/.216/.254.

Surely it gets better when he gets ahead later in the count right??

Not exactly.

After a 2-1 count it's .226/.238/.323. After 3-1 count it's .125/.364/.125 (yeah that's 1 single and 3 walks in 11 tries). After a 3-0 count it's .000/.727/.000 (11 PA 8 walks 0 hits).

Sigh.

As much as I hate it, just keep swinging Yuni...and would it kill you to learn how to bunt??.   The Brewers lead the league in sacrifices and our SS has 0.
